Shanika Pascal, REM

Shanika Pascal is currently a rising junior in Biomedical engineering at FIU where she intends to pursue a graduate degree. Through FIU’s summer 2018 REM Shanika has been able to explore usefulness of optics in biomedical applications and anticipates making it the focus of her future graduate research.

Angie Pierre, REU

Angie Pierre is in FIU’s biomedical engineering program and a PATHS-UP scholar. Angie completed a rigorous high school curriculum at the School for Advanced Studies, where she obtained an associate of arts degree in biology. She is the undergraduate representative for PATHS-UP. She has also been accepted into the C.U.R.E program as research trainee, where she will be working under the guidance of Dr. Ramella-Roman starting in Fall 2018. Angie’s ultimate goal through her journey as a biomedical engineer is to become an MD/PhD candidate and eventually take her research to under-developed countries.

Jacob Lopez, Young Scholar

Jacob Lopez is a high-school student from the Medical Academy of Science and Technology. Jacob is a summer research intern at Florida International University working under Dr. Jessica Ramella-Roman performing PATHS-UP research, focusing on developing wearable technology for health applications. Jacob intends on pursing a career within the fields of either anesthesiology or nuclear engineering.
