Project Description

Goal

To create a mobile platform that responds to its surroundings based upon the responses received by its sensors.

Objectives

         The main objective for this project is to design a platform that can move in any direction without changing orientation and vice versa.

         The platform will have a feel for its surroundings by the use of its various sensors.

         The platform will be able to have one of its components fail and continue to function optimally.

Form and Function

         The overall shape of the mobile platform will be based upon a rectangular structure.

         It will contain 12 sensors, 8 of which will be infrared sensors and the other 4 will be ultrasonic sensors.

         The wheels are Omni directional; in other words, the wheels have the ability to move in any direction.

Mentorship

         Project team will meet at least twice a week.

         Mentors will instruct and teach the students about computer aided design, programming in various languages, and manufacturing techniques.

         Mentors will discuss their personal experiences in hopes of enlightening their students.

As a team, we hope to communicate ideas and information between each other, learn from each other, and gain experience in doing this project.  As a mentor, my goal is to pass as much of my knowledge to them as possible, in hopes that they will learn from this project and continue on this educational path.
