Professor Damodaran’s expertise is in the area of large-scale optimization, logistics, simulation, scheduling and electronics manufacturing. He has developed a number of mixed-integer models to address interesting problems in the areas of new product development, batch processing, VLSI physical design, PCB assembly, etc. He has devised branch & price approaches for both deterministic and stochastic mixed-integer models. His initiatives in the area of electronics manufacturing were geared towards eliminating lead from electronics assembly.

His current research initiatives are:

  • capacity planning models for make-to-order enterprises
  • scheduling batch processing machines in electronics manufacturing
  • meet-pass planning in train scheduling design problem
  • queuing approximations for server assembly lines
