Tips to getting started:

What do I need to do first?

We will not have the books for a week or two, so we should all see the videos at home. The more you see, the better you will do in the course. However, you can see the videos according to the chapter we are covering.  Please go to the following website and look for videos:

Also, try answering the multiple choice questions and see the power point slides.

What software do I need to install?

1. WinZip, WinRar, or 7 Zip. 7 Zip is a freeware. WinRar is the easiest to use, but the trial version will expire in a month, WinZip  is available at the lab, but it will also expire at home

2. The CD's from the book

If I don't want to affect programs in my computer, what can I do?

Not necessary but if you would like to restore your computer to before you used Visual Basic 2008, you may use this option.

Start --> all programs --> accessories --> System Tools --> System Restore --> Create a Restore Point --> name it

When you want to go back as if you did not install the software and other files, use restore. If other files will also get deleted. It is always recommended to keep backups in cases mistakes happen.

What do I do if my programs from the book do not work when I execute them?

1. CD are read only, so if you try to  execute or use code from a CD the program will not work properly, in particular for VB.NET. What you need to do is copy and paste the code to your computer. Right click your mouse. Then select properties. Remove Read-Only. Select  with subfolders. The higher the level, the more packages you will remove the read-only from. In some cases, you may have to do it at a more specific level in cases there are too many folders and subfolders.
