Venn Diagrams
A Venn diagram is a way of representing sets visually.
Example from the book:
“Here is one for you. Of fifty people at picnic, forty one like sardine sandwiches, thirty five like cheese sandwiches and thirty like both.
How many like neither cheese nor sardines” asked her grandfather to Hannah (pg-66)
|
| Let’s try a problem: |
| A = (1,2,3) | B = (3,4,5) |
First draw the Venn diagram for Set A |
Now draw the Venn Diagram for Set B |
| Now let’s look at the AUB which is (1,2,3,4,5) and AnB which is (3). |
 | |
 |
The intersection of sets A and B is those elements which are in set A and set B.
|
The union of sets A and B is those elements which are in set A or set B or both.
