Florida International Univesity is one among the chosen 25 university campuses in which the ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Summer Science camps are to be held for 2008. FIU has been a part of this novel venture since its initiation in 2007.
The 2008 camp was held from June 29 to July 11.
PURPOSE: The ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Summer Science Camp (BHSSC) is organized to provide activities, experiments, projects, and field experiences to enrich students’ mathematics, science, technology, and communication skills.
PROGRAM: The BHSSC is a two-week academic, residential camp that emphasizes increasing students’ mathematics/science skills, introducing them to college life, and stimulating their interest in science and engineering as a potential career path. Each day, campers will attend classes that include problem solving, study, research, writing and communication skills incorporated with biology, chemistry, physics, design concepts, and field excursions. Certified classroom teachers and university faculty will teach the classes.
CAMP LOCATION: The camp will be held on the Florida International University. Housing will be provided in the Florida International University dorm.
RECRUITMENT AREA: Camp participants will be selected from Dade, Broward Counties and Palm Beach County.
ELIGIBILITY: The student must be CURRENTLY enrolled in 5th, 6th or 7th grade.
