Benefits of Membership

Tau Beta Pi confers recognition and honor upon you. Membership identifies you throughout your life as a distinguished individual and an outstanding engineer. Prospective employers recognize your Tau Beta Pi key as a mark of your excellence.

Tau Beta Pi seeks to broaden the horizons of its members. Their interests in non-technical fields, civic responsibility, and other human and cultural areas are expanded through the activities of the chapters.

Tau Beta Pi chapters conduct programs which benefit their membership, college, and community. Sponsoring lectures, student tutoring, donating books and magazines to engineering libraries, and organizing faculty-student events, blood drives, and social events are typical activities.

  • Tau Beta Pi National Headquarters offers the "Engineering Futures"program, in which Tau Bates from industry present interactive seminars on leadership, management, teamwork, and problem-solving to engineering students. Our chapter holds several of these seminars annually.

  • Projects such as Toys for Tots, Habitat for Hummanity, Peer Tutoring, and campus restoration give our members the chance to make a positive impact on the University and the community.

Requirements for the Initiation of New Members

Eligibility
  • Students who have completed their sophomore level courses and are in high academic standing are invited to the Inductee Meeting
  • If their GPA and class rank render them eligible for membership based on the official criteria, they must go through an initiation process in order to become members
  • At this point, inductees will receive their bents and the Tau Beta Pi booklets.

Initiation Process

The initiation process involves attending meetings, performing community services, attending at least one Engineering Future session, and showing pride and support for our chapter by participating in other activities.

  • We sponsor at least two Engineering Futures sessions per semester, on different topics. Inductees MUST attend at least one session before the induction ceremony.
  • Inductees MUST wear their polished bent every day during the week of the Induction Ceremony.
  • Initiates who successfully complete their requirements are initiated into the organization at the end of the semester.
