The Mechanical Engineering (BS) program at FIU is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc (ABET). This program accomplishes the following long term Educational Objectives:

1. The students are prepared for professional practice in entry-level engineering positions or to enroll in further engineering degree programs.

2. The students are prepared for successful careers and possible leadership positions as a result of teaming, communication, and problem-solving skills learned in our program.

3. At all stages of their careers, the students will be engaged in activitied that demonstrate a commitment to and a desired for ongoing personal and professonal growth and learning.

 

This program also accomplishes the following Program Outcomes:

(A). Ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, including statistics, multivariable calculus, and differential equations, science including physics and engineering.

(B). Ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interprest data.

(C). Ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs.

(D). Ability to function on multi-disciplinary teamw.

(E). Abilty to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems.

(F). Understanding of professional and ethical responsibility

(G). Ability to communicate effectively.

(H). Broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global and societal context.

(I). Recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning.

(J). Knowledge of contemporary issues.

(K). Ability to use techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
